Blogging as a form of living artfully
I recently listened to an episode from Noah Rasheta’s Secular Buddhism podcast called Learning to Live Artfully. In my understanding, the main idea of living artfully is rejecting the utilitarian model of thinking, where we try to justify all of our actions based on what utility or value they provide.
For example, artists don’t paint because it makes someone’s life easier; they paint because they want to paint. Dancers dance just to dance. People sit on park benches because they want to. Fly fishermen fish because they want to fish.
Tonight it occurred to me that, at least for me, a personal blog fits into this category of living artfully. I’m not blogging to provide value to any particular audience, or to make money, or to build my career. I’m blogging because I want to blog.
